Nigeria's Senate passes N57bn budget for police trust fund

The Nigeria Police Trust Fund’s 2023 budget, worth N57 billion, was approved by the Senate on Tuesday. 

Jerrymusa.com reports that the budget estimates that overall recurrent expenses will be N9,989,483,990.00, while capital expenditures will be N47,024,803,541.18.

The Senate’s deliberation and adoption of the report from the Joint Committees on Police Affairs of the House of Representatives and the Senate regarding the 2023 budget plan of the NPTF came before the budget for 2023 was passed.

During plenary, Ahmed Madori, chairman of the Senate Committee on Police Affairs, delivered the report.

In its report, the joint committee noted that “since the NPTF’s founding in 2019, this is its fourth budget.”

The NPTF is presently proceeding with executing its authorised budget for 2022. “That the NPTF has accrued revenue for 2023 of N56,205,355,774.00, which represents 0.5% of total revenue accrued to the Federation Accounts.”

“Aids, grants, and donations generated the sum of N500,000,000.00; 0.05% of the net profit of companies in Nigeria is N308,931,758,00,” the statement continued.
