Breaking News, Atiku Speak's At Abuja

The Nigeria elections of 2023 may have come and gone, but the dust seems not to have settled as it continues to be disputed. The People’s Democratic Party’s Atiku Abubakar, a former vice president, decided on Thursday, to appeal to the Supreme Court the decision of the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal that upheld President Bola Tinubu’s victory in the election for president on February 25, 2023.

Nigeria Elections Witnesses Violence

He claimed that he had experience fighting in court and that he would keep looking to the judiciary for relief. Atiku stated during a press conference at the Peoples Democratic Party headquarters in Abuja that he was determined to contest the tribunal’s ruling because he was dedicated to establishing a reliable democratic system.

Essence of Democracy

According to Atiku, he is convinced that there should be no shady machinations in the Nigeria elections and its democratic process, and the results of every election should be an exact reflection of the preferences of the electorates.

“In my opinion, this is the only way for our democracy to truly manifest its genuine essence. The former vice president stated, “Whether I succeed in my endeavour or not, the record of my endeavour to ensure an order of credible elections in Nigeria shall remain for the future generations to imitate.”

Real Justice in the Nigeria Elections

Atiku, who finished second in the election to Tinubu, claimed that the tribunal’s decision upholding Tinubu’s victory did not instill confidence. “The decision made yesterday is respected, but I refused to accept it. Because I don’t think the verdict provides any real justice, I refused to accept it, Atiku remarked.

There is still hope

Jerrymusa.com quotes the former vice president as saying the tribunal’s decision about the disputed Nigeria elections won’t destroy his confidence in the judiciary.
“As a result, I have requested that my solicitors exercise my constitutionally protected right to appeal to the higher court, in this case, the Supreme Court of Nigeria.”
